Happy Halloween

Okay, so now that it's Halloween weekend, I'll say what my costume is: Brandon and I are going as the Futurama characters Fry and Leela!! He helped me to make my single eye, and I think that it looks pretty darn cool. Two parties tonight, yo. I'm excited!

I think I mostly finished my paper for Tuesday, but I have a butt-load more to work on for my test for Tuesday, too. Blah. I also have my X-rays on Wednesday, thank God.

I can't wait until mid-December when all of this is behind me!!!

Playing Catch Up

Sorry! I've been soooooooooo busy lately. Just a quick catch up, though:

I MADE AN A ON MY RESEARCH SEMINAR IN DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY MIDTERM!!!!

Q: What did the Halloween fanatic do when November came around and he could no longer get his Halloween fix?

A: He went on the pumpkin patch.

(I should write a children's joke book.)

Queen for a Day

I can't believe that it has been 10 years to the day since a Homecoming tiara was placed on my head. 1o years! I wanted to share this strange mile marker in my life with my classmates today, but I don't like the reaction I've received more than once when people hear that yes, I was Homecoming Queen: "Oh, did you go to a small school?"
What kind of question is that? How could I not take offense to that? So, needless to say, I don't usually bring it up to people who have entered my life since that time.
There were so many wonderful memories from that day: Mr. Trout saying that the contest should be cancelled if I didn't win, my name being called as the Queen, the hugs and cheers and hoorahs from the Waller High School band, being chauffeured in a convertible as I waved to numerous cheers, having my family come out to support my nomination, knowing that people thought enough of me to vote for me (and to get others to do so!), and, most importantly, coming home to find that both Grandma and Grandmother had left messages to tell me "Congratulations". October 14, 1994 was a great day.

Too Bad, So Sad

Judi came in to my office today to talk with me about the fact that they were going to go with someone else as advisor. But at least she let me know that I interviewed well and was likely their third choice (out of over 70)! Fact is, my competition included two women who already have their Master's degrees and several years of experience. But at least I tried! Judi told me that I interviewed quite well. But, I will still double-check with them to find out what I could do to be a better candidate next time.
I am sad about the truck costing me so very much money. After rental car fees, transmission fluid exchange cost, parts, labor, and fixing the truck's catalytic(?) converter, I'll be out almost $1000. That sucks a lot. That's dipping into my vacation money. But I will still go on vacation. To New York. I'll just have less money.

Trucky Dang Darn

So I am currently the proud renter of a Pontiac GrandAM with less than 70 miles on it. Yes, folks, the good ol' truck almost left me stranded today on my way to practice with the boys. This is becoming so frustrating, I can't even describe it. It's almost cruel having such a new vehicle as a rental for a couple of days while I wait for the truck to get fixed. It's the ABS. Or maybe it's the engine. I thought it was the transmission, but that was taken care of yesterday, and the uhh-uhh-uuuuuhhhhing is only getting worse.
Stupid truck.
I can't wait to have a real car.
[Also, for the record, I should find out about the advisor job by the end of this week or early next week....]

Ahhctober

So what's new with me? Lotsa stuff! Allow me to delineate:
  • I made an A on my first Correlation and Regression Analysis exam. Woo hoo!!!

  • I sold the car (I know you already read that, but it's worth repeating!)

  • I am excited about Halloween. [Brandon and I have a theme we're working on!]

  • My friend Sara's birthday is coming up: October 15!

  • My friend Sara is pregnant!

  • I am 1 of the 5 applicants for the advisor position (of the 70+ applicants!) who were invited to interview! My interview is Monday morning. (I don't expect to get the job, but this'll be great experience for future professional interviews.)

  • I had my hearing tested yesterday. I have a mild hearing defecit in my left ear; apparently I have problems with certain vowels (o and u?) in that ear. I was given 'homework' to help decrease the defecit: read aloud everyday for 30 minutes. I also have to face people when they talk to me and ask them to slow down. Great. Now I'm 'slow' and have more homework! ; )

  • I will get my teeth checked (finally!) on November 3.
