I can't believe that it has been 10 years to the day since a Homecoming tiara was placed on my head. 1o years! I wanted to share this strange mile marker in my life with my classmates today, but I don't like the reaction I've received more than once when people hear that yes, I was Homecoming Queen: "Oh, did you go to a small school?"
What kind of question is that? How could I not take offense to that? So, needless to say, I don't usually bring it up to people who have entered my life since that time.
There were so many wonderful memories from that day: Mr. Trout saying that the contest should be cancelled if I didn't win, my name being called as the Queen, the hugs and cheers and hoorahs from the Waller High School band, being chauffeured in a convertible as I waved to numerous cheers, having my family come out to support my nomination, knowing that people thought enough of me to vote for me (and to get others to do so!), and, most importantly, coming home to find that both Grandma and Grandmother had left messages to tell me "Congratulations". October 14, 1994 was a great day.
